   The Great Gatsby, a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a story that uses characterization to show that happiness is not really attainable. Fitzgerald shows this by making most of the characters selfish, greedy, and unhappy with their lives. He tries to show us that no matter what you have in life people will always be unhappy with what they have. For example, Gatsby is a millionaire with a big house and an expensive car but he is still unhappy because he wants the girl of his dreams. Tom Buchanan is married to Daisy but he isn't happy with just her so he gets a mistress. Also, Myrtle is unhappy with her marriage because her husband isn't rich enough for her and decides to cheat on him with Tom Buchanan. With this being said, Gatsby's opinion on happiness is that it can not be obtained.     Fitzgerald characterizes everyone in kind of the same way, they all are unhappy with their lives and they are all greedy. I think the theme of The Great Gatsby is that happiness is unattainable. For example, Gatsby is a millionaire with a big house and an expensive car, yet he isn't happy because he is focused on getting the girl of  his dreams. Tom Buchanan is married to Daisy and has a kid yet he isn't happy and decides to get a mistress. Also Myrtle is unhappy with her marriage because her husband isn't rich enough for her and decides to cheat on him with Tom Buchanan.

Everything happened 2 years ago. It turned out that Gatsby wasn't all that great because no one was willing to show up to his funeral, one even said that "He got what he deserved, they all made "excuses" to not go all except Mr. Gatz. Nick decides to leave long island, but before that he goes says goodbye to Jordan and has a interaction with Tom Buchanan.

Gatsby is actually not a good man, he is not even good, he had no one that wanted to show up to his funeral. I don't think nick is honest with himself because he hangs out with dishonest people and even respects and seeks relationships with them, he starts to be more judgmental with them around because they are different than him.   I agree with what  Fitzgerald  says about tom and daisy because they are pretty reckless and uncaring i don't really understand daisy's behavior and i don't really agree with what she does because she doesn't care about other peoples feelings she just cares for being perfect, i would probably not let my brother date her because she is uncaring and isn't serious about relationships.
